Things we love about our home: First impression Beautiful views in every direction. Wide open sky with lots of sunlight for flower beds and gardening. The rock garden by the front door was made using rocks we found around the yard while landscaping. Raised garden in the backyard On the West end of the raised bed there are 6 raspberry bushes. 4 are early to mid-summer producing and 2 are late summer producing. By the stairs are 4 currant bushes, 3 red and 1 black. Between the raspberries and currants are 2 rhubarb plants that will be ready to harvest next summer. The soil is a garden mix topsoil with organic compost added. Between the railroad ties and the soil there is an impermeable barrier and also a drainage system so the soil does not become over saturated. Backyard We were originally planning to install a 16x20 pergola over brick patio and pizza oven approximately ten feet from the South and West lot lines. In the process of excavating we found the many stumps the builder had buried and removed them; ensuring this will be one of the few lots in our area that won't develop a sink hole in the coming years. A gravel pad that extends below the frost line is ready to be used just under the grass and only needs to be exposed to be useable if desired. We have noticed that in the Spring the neighbor's yard floods and created a river through the yard. To manage that water we installed a French Drain. We can provide a location map of the French Drain and the pergola pad. On the garage side of the yard we put in a gravel pad for things like extra parking, atvs, trailers, boats, RV's etc with a thirteen foot wide gate. Deck A one of a kind, gorgeous Tigerwood deck. It is an absolutely beautiful location to relax with friends and enjoy a fire in the evening, or soak up the sun on a warm Summer day. Entryway Upon entering through the front door you almost immediately notice the East and West Twin Peaks Mountains, which are able to be seen through the back deck door. The large tiled floor - made up of unique hexagon tiles - is the perfect place for guest to remove their wet or snowy shoes. Livingroom When designing this house, tall ceilings with abundant natural sunlight was important to us. Even on the dreariest days the room is bright. It is possibly the room we will miss the most. The views are breathtaking and always changing. We added an automatic fan to the fire place that helps keep the room warm and toasty even on a windy winter day. The ceiling fan is a Haiku by Big Ass Fans, it has sensors that manage the temperature and can be set to automatically adjust speed to push the warm air down in the Winter or, in the Summer, create a breeze with the swoosh feature to cool you down. Bathrooms downstairs The bathroom by the garage has a shower which is perfect for dirty kids and adults to use instead of messing up the whole house. We also put a half bath under the stairs for guest. The tiled floor in this guest bathroom is also unique and inviting. Kitchen The room we spend the most time in is the kitchen. We all enjoy cooking and designed the layout with multiple cooks in mind. The granite counters are gorgeous with the hickory durable high-end cabinetry from KraftMaid. There is a low baking counter for kneading bread, rolling out pastries, or for children to be able to reach if they want to help. We added little perks such as a large spice cabinet, large deep drawers in the island, a pullout trash can next to the prep sink, a pullout on the left side of the refrigerator, and a kidney shaped corner cabinet storage. It's a wonderful kitchen for making family memories and also perfect for entertaining guests for a party. Range wall The Fisher & Paykel 48 inch range with eight burners and two ovens and the American made VentAHood are the STARS of the kitchen. The range is a luxury to cook on. Every burner has the ability to simmer with the front four burners being capable of 23,500 BTU. The 5.5 gallon per min pot filler is extremely convenient. On the right side of the range is a pullout for cooking utensils, and a cabinet for baking pans, cutting boards etc. On the left side are deep drawers conveniently located by the dinning room door to store serving-ware. Master bath A bathroom to dream about. It is bright with marble tile floor, a huge freestanding tub that is a joy to relax in, a shower that is spacious, and the large layout of the bathroom leaves plenty of room for two people to move around in easily. The attached walk-in closet in quite convenient. Master bedroom The master is large with a sitting area between the main area and the bathroom. There is a sliding door that leads to a small deck that is perfect for drinking your morning coffee, basking in the sun on a warm day, or watching the absolutely beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Location This home provides easy access to the Parks Highway via the Trunk Road exit. Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson is 45-50 minutes, The Alaska Center for The Performing Arts is 53 minutes, and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is 62 minutes. A new gas station and convenience store will be opening soon between the neighborhood and the Parks Highway. According to their website: Machetanz Elementary is a STEM school focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with an emphasis on place based service learning and the Arts. Machetanz is the only STEM elementary school in the valley and is conveniently located within walking distance. There are two easy boardwalk trails close by. Swan 'Quggesh' Lake Trails is accessible off of South Barn Gable Loop and is easily walked to. The other is Wasilla Creek Boardwalk Trail on Nelson Road. The hay flats are protected land so there won't be any new developments going in between the house and the mountain view's. The neighborhood has paved sidewalk on Nelson Rd that connect to paths all over the valley to walk or ride bikes on. This area is one of the safest in the Matanuska Valley and is popular with families. 1 GIG internet is available. General features The house has lots of windows and every single window has a mountain view. The West-facing windows do also have wetlands views. We regularly spot bald eagles, sand cranes, and the occasional flock of swans or an owl. On a clear day you can even see the volcano, Mount Spurr, almost three hundred miles away, past Sleeping Lady (South Peak, Mount Susitna, Mount Tolbert). Because of the many windows, in the summer, lights rarely need to be turned on and in the winter you can watch the Northern Lights. We have custom fitted, light blocking, insulated blinds in all the upstairs windows. There is a small Facebook community page "The Bluffs at the Ranch" that you can join.
